Bill was notoriously idiosyncratic for, among other things, wearing a watch with no hands. Occasionally, in the middle of someone’s garrulous verbalizing or perhaps during a tedious or boring task, he might glance at his watch and announce something like “Time’s up!” or “Okay, time to go!”, usually with only his close friends the wiser. I have been searching for some documentary evidence; so far, this extreme crop from a photograph made on a Death Valley outing as Bill was adjusting his 8×10 view camera is the only record of the watch I have found so far. But I’m still on the lookout as I search my archives.
