During one of our father-daughter “S-Days” (Saturdays and Sundays), six-year-old Ivi sits at a picnic table in a chilly, empty riverside park in Eastern Oregon and writes and draws in her journal. That day the Grande Ronde River was boiling and churning at a cliff’s edge by the park, and Ivi created a marvelous annotated drawing of the river (which I am trying to find again and will post here when I do). A couple of years later, she would go on to win top place in a county-wide poetry competition for elementary students.
