Ken Flint streaked across the skies of my universe like a comet then disappeared. I met him in a photojournalism class in 1971 or 72 at Cal State Long Beach. We quickly became friends and appreciative of each others’ work, and probably imagined that we were the top students in that class. Soon after we knew that we were kindred souls, he told me that I needed to meet one of his friends, who turned out to be Bill Wertz. Bill became a lifelong friend and major influence and inspiration (and one of the subjects of my two-volume work, Dead and Near-Dead Photographers I Have Known). While my acquaintance with Ken only lasted two or three years, until he relinquished serious pursuit of photography, I learned of later tragedies of his life, including the death of his wonderful wife Claudia and then his own abject decline in health. Here are some of my photos of Ken and Claudia, including images during many of our travels together with me and my then-partner, Sandra. We have images of Ken both as a photographer and as a highly-in-demand male model.
