Saigon, Vietnam (1967)

For a time in the 1967-1968 period, during the Vietnam War, I was assigned to and lived in  Saigon. By that time, I had “graduated” from my use of a Brownie Hawkeye camera (see an example of its output here) to a low-end Kodak Instamatic 126 (square 28mm image format) camera. My stint in Vietnam preceded my commitment to the serious pursuit of photography (and concomitant use of better tools), but strongly nudged me in that direction.   As I continue to sort through old materials that have not been seen for decades, a few images from Vietnam surface, usually in terrible condition. Here is an example, scanned from the original faded and scratched color slide, and converted to monochrome:

Frank (circa 1910)

Today while inspecting an old, early 20th century photo album left to my wife by her mother and ancestors, I came across this wonderful photograph of someone identified simply as “Frank”, complete with annotated arrow in the top right corner, apparently added by my wife’s grandmother.

Frank, circa 1910 (original photographer unknown; album page rephotographed by LEH)
